The 28Summits Challenge I set myself represents the goal to reach the highest points of each of the member states of the European Union. Not all of these points will be actual summits or high mountains, but I see each one as part of the bigger challenge to climb the higher ones like Zugspitze, Grossglockner or Mont Blanc. Some of the countries on the list have dependencies and colonies outside of the European continent where one can find their highest points. In this challenge I will only focus on the highest points on the European continent.
The Status of the 28Summits Challenge
The map below shows the countries I will be traveling to and will be updated over time when I cross one of the 28Summits of the list (countries in green):
The 28Summits list
To identify the highest points of each of the member states I took the official statistics from the CIA World Fact Book and compiled a list of the 28Summits I want to reach. The elevation of mountains often varies through glaciers on the top or general tectonic movement, therefore, the elevation stated in the list might vary from numbers from other sources. To have consistency I will stick to the data from my primary source, but when I do a summit and have the GPS device with me I will post that data additionally.
